Ok: here is a question for debate - PLEASE feel free to use the chatter box to the right of this page. The more responses I get on this the better - I'm still kind of undecided on this issue:
Should Drugs be legalized????
Points to ponder:
During the 20's when drinking (buying booze to be exact) was illegal its use sky rocketed and violence and death came with it. When it was legalized again the Gov. the use dropped and the violence left the business because it was no longer risky and underground. Would the same thing happen with legalized drugs?
If we legalized it - how would we regulate it? By age limit of course which puts the teenage users (a huge majority) back to the under ground market, we'd keep it from pregnant women and some criminals and sick people - which leaves the middle aged, middle class men to use it and they don't anyway!
Would legalizing it promote a stoned generation?
Should we legalize ALL drugs or just marijuana - which is only psychologically addicting and actually reverse tolerant - (The more you use it the less of it you need - you get the same high from a smaller dose.)
If we don't legalize it, should we put the resources being spent on the drug way to use in a different way? Because they aren't doing much good where they are now.
Where do we draw the line of where government steps in? Should government step in because using drugs makes people unproductive? Even if it doesn’t directly harm an individual their decreased level of responsibility and productivity makes them a detriment to society as a whole. Couldn't we say the same thing for fat people though? They are less productive, right? So then should government regulate how many candy bars we are allowed to eat per week in order to keep us socially productive? When do we draw the line? Has it gone too far already?
Why should the government legalize drugs? People as whole are dumb. Stupid in mass quantities. Would that be the equivalent of letting a child do what they want just because? Are we capable of making those kinds of decisions as to what is best for us? What kind of unforeseen affects will this have?
