Katrina
Hurricane Katrina is on its way to Lousianna - a city 14 feet below sea level. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Admin says:
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 175 MPH...WITH HIGHER GUSTS.
KATRINA IS A POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC CATEGORY FIVE HURRICANE ON
THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON SCALE. COASTAL STORM SURGE FLOODING OF 18 TO 22 FEET ABOVE NORMAL TIDE LEVELS...LOCALLY AS HIGH AS 28 FEET ALONG WITH LARGE AND DANGEROUS
BATTERING WAVES...CAN BE EXPECTED NEAR AND TO THE EAST OF WHERE THE
CENTER MAKES LANDFALL. SIGNIFICANT STORM SURGE FLOODING WILL OCCUR
ELSEWHERE ALONG THE CENTRAL AND NORTHEASTERN GULF OF MEXICO COAST.
Whenb mostpeople think about hurricanes they think wind and lots of rain. The effects extend much further though, from tornadoes spawned by the winds to inland flooding caused by a slow moving storm, to the disease and pests that fill in after the storm. As the hurricane moves over land everything is blown to the east then as the eye passes everything that survived is then blown to the west. The media hypes things up because it makes a "Good story" but mother nature is nothing to be trifeled with. Please pray for the Gulf coast residents.
